Bil Basmala "Nobody Beats...Volume Three"

Bil Basmala is back again with another in his series of "Nobody Beats..." this time we are on Volume Three (normally what comes after One and Two) if you enjoyed the first two (if you haven't checked out those peep my post on them here) you will not be let down by volume three.

You can stream and download the album here.

J. Sands "Jobs"

J. Sands is getting ready to release his debut solo album "The Poet Tree of Life" and has made a video for the first single "Jobs" where Sands handles production as well as the mic. I have been anticipating "The Poet Tree of Life" for a while and "Jobs" doesn't disappoint at all, so check it out now.

Creature "Chester Himes EP" produced by Prefuse 73

What's that, you want me to suggest to you some more great free music that I probably should actually review instead of just sharing the link, well here is some for you. How about an EP by Creature with Prefuse 73 handling the production. Does that sound good to you? If it doesn't then I do not know what is wrong with you, the EP is dope and hope this means they are working on a full length together, but we shall see.

Stream and download the album here.

Dam-Funk "InnaFocusedDaze"

Dam-Funk joined forces with Scion to release an EP to go along with his new tour with Master Blazter and to top it off, they are offering it for free. If you do not know who Dam-Funk is, well first off, shame on you, second...you should find out and right now is the best time. He is one of many musicians out there going hard for what he calls modern funk and it is some of the funkiest music you will hear.

You can download the album here

Redlist "Initialize Patch"

Redlist returns with a new solo instrumental project, entitled "Fuck Minor" dropping October 1st and has given us a glimpse into what makes this album different than his previous works with the first single "Initialize Patch." If this is any indication, the album is going to be rather impressive, while surely upsetting some people because it isn't your standard instrumental album, but all great music pisses off a few people. Check out the track below.

PremRock & Willie Green feat. C-Rayz Walz, Soul Khan & DJ Addikt "Had to Be Me"

PremRock and Willie Green are back with another track off their forthcoming album "PremRock & Willie Green" coming out Wednesday September 28th. This time, they brought along some friends to help them out, C-Rayz Walz and Soul Khan join Prem on the mic while DJ Addikt lays down some golden scratches. You can check out the track below.

But that isn't all that Prem and Mr. Green are up to, they are also kicking off a tour very shortly and even traveling over seas and to do so they could use some assistance, so check out their kickstarter project and help out in anyway you can (you will be rewarded.)

1Eighty "D.D. (Dear Dilla)" (Live in Tokyo, Japan)

As I am sure many people have realized, my two main musical loves are jazz and hip hop and occasional those two words meet. Often it is with hip hop that has a heavy jazz sound or influence, occasionally it is the other way around and this is the case on 1Eighty's track, "D.D. (Dear Dilla)" a jazz group pays homage to one of the greats in the world of hip hop (and really in music as a whole.) Check out the video and enjoy.

Thanks to Them Fighting Words for sharing this first.

Task1ne "What's That Sound" produced by Adambomb

My apologies for missing this one, but about 2 weeks ago, Task1ne released the first video for his album "District 916" which actually dropped on, you guessed it, 9.16. So I figured I should share the video with you to introduce you to Task1ne if you are unfamiliar, check it and don't think just because the video is shot in a comic book store that this is "nerd core" (a term I hate because most musicians are nerds, cool nerds, but nerds) sit back and check it.

L.A "The L.A. Riots: Mental Fatality"

I feel the need to inform people that at a time when Kreayshawn and V-Nasty are getting shine for being dope female MCs that this is far from the truth, and I don't want to hear "they are good for a female" comment. First off, no, they suck the end. Secondly, I can rattle off a rather long list of female MCs who would body most males, so shut up with that. What you don't believe me? Here are a few that you should know for sure Jean Grae, Psalm One, Rapsody, Signif, and last but certainly not least, L.A. In fact, L.A. just dropped a new project called "The L.A. Riots: Mental Fatality" produced entirely by Hippie Sabotage, so for all those wondering how good is L.A. why not check out the link below and find out for yourself.

You can stream the album here and download it here

Maxx Julian & Sincere Vega "She Say"

Maxx Julian and Sincere Vega offer up another track from their forth coming album "sinAmaxx" this time Sincere Vega gives a first hand account on some of the pitfalls of love, but don't think this isn't a hard hitting beat with solid lyrics just because you see the word love, let them prove you wrong and take a listen.

Shade Cobain "Wake-Up (New Day)"

I keep meaning to do a post talking about Shade Cobain, an incredible producer from Pittsburgh so today seems like a great day to do it, since it is his birthday and him releasing a new beat on his soundcloud page entitled "Wake-Up (New Day)" take a listen check out it and enjoy. While you are there, listen to his other music on the soundcloud page and you might as well check out his bandcamp page where he has more than a few albums.

Blasphemous Jazz "Blasphemous Jazz: The Bitches Brew Sessions"

For those that do not know, I am a HUGE fan of Miles Davis, from his first recordings to his last. I fully realize that many people play and attempt to play or rework his music because of their love for it. But far too often the music sounds like a karaoke version of what Miles did and if that's the case, I would rather just listen to Miles instead. But occasionally people come along who do the music justice and continue to push the boundaries that Miles moved to where they are today.
This album is just that, Mndsgn, Swarvy, Sir Froderick, Knxwledge, Josh Hey, and Cold Seltzers each created their own interpretation of the classic "Bitches Brew" for a show on Thursday June 2, 2011 at The Little Bar in South Philadelphia; where they each did a live set that included these pieces of music, the event the host/MC of the event was Stainless Steele. This album is the studio version of what was performed that night. Take a listen and enjoy.

Black-Tokyo "Good Clean Filth Vol 2"

Not too long ago a posted a link for Black-Tokyo's "Good Clean Filth Vol 1" where he asked twitter followers for songs to flip, and he has done it again with Vol 2. Once again I offered up a song near and dear to my existence, the original theme song to "Doctor Who," and he did not dissapoint, in fact I have dubbed it my "theme song" because who doesn't want a theme song right? Check out the "Doctor Who" flip and check out the rest of the album as well and see how he handled songs by Bush, Bjork, King Crimson, and many others.

LAMEBOT "West Coast Robo-Zombie Mix"

Last month a noted I had recently gotten into LAMEBOT, little did I know that not too long after that there would be a live mix (which I am a big fan of) so let me present to you that live mix, entitled "West Coast Robo-Zombie Mix"

West Coast Robo-Zombie Mix by LAMEBOT_Music

This is a live mix inspired by LAMEBOT's two week stint DJing in the West coast. LAMEBOT wanted to bring back some of that glitchy, bassy, cali love and infuse it to a live set. A condensed version of this set was played live at The Electric Pickle in Miami FL

E Dot Spencer "Born To Fly"

People always like to have debates about best MC or producer and then there are the sub categories and one of the ones that always comes out is best MC who is a professional athlete. Well, I am here to say, we can put that final debate to rest VERY easily right here and right now. It is E Dot Spencer and let me add he is also now a Globetrotter, which by itself is pretty damn cool. But he isn't just a pro basketball player who raps well. No, ladies and gentleman he is a talented MC and producer whether or not he was a pro athlete. Further proof that we need to stop putting people into little boxes that they cannot get out of, E Dot Spencer is a quality MC and producer. End of discussion. But you probably would like some proof, well guess what, I can do that for you, he just happened to drop "Born to Fly" today (September 3, 2011) so go the link below and check for yourself.

M.anifest "Suffer" (video)

People often say that hip hop is a global community and global music, but when asked to name artists from overseas they struggle. This may lead some to believe that the idea is just a myth. Well let me introduce you to, M.anifest, an MC from Ghana, who later moved to Minneapolis. His debut album, "manfestive" came out in 2007 and received great praise, but sadly many do not know about him. Hopefully that will change when he releases his sophomore album "Immigrant Chronicles: Coming to America" on September 20th. Check out the video for the single off the album, "Suffer" with production by Budo.

You can download "Suffer" here and preorder the album here.

The folks at Audio Recon (bandcamp here) never seem to disappoint when it comes to releasing quality music and their latest release from Lorax and Defame "Cicada Shells" is no different. The album is another in a recent string of incredible MC/producer collab albums where both parties work together to create a cohesive sounding and feeling album. Lorax handles all the vocals and Defame produced each track, with cuts by DJ Spoolz. Check out the album and enjoy.
